Memories of The Pendlebury Miners Club
Well what a pity that where today stands a pile of rubble and empty waste ground, there once stood a great club, that was of course The Miners.
Many a family party would be held there.
It was a great place full of community spirit, where everyone seemed to know each other, or if they didn't they soon got to know one another.
Monday and Thursday nights were bingo nights, it would be packed out with lots of bingo fanatics.
There were also keep fit classes.
At weekends there would be cabaret acts and family functions.
The Miners Club had a large room with a stage at one end, a separate bar and games room.
The best time was Christmas, there was always a party on Boxing day and New Years day, favourite records being played such as lily the pink, & yellow submarine.
The ceiling would be full of balloons in a net which they would let go.
What fun we all had!
There were also great days out to Blackpool for all the kids on coaches. On the way you would be taken to a hotel for fish and chips then to the fair.
There would be a convoy of double decker buses full of children enjoying a great day out!
Of course you had to have a ticket, which meant that you had to be members of the Miners, but there were always plenty of these to share and pass around amongst friends.
Then there were the Miners Gala's held on the fields, there were morris dancing tournaments, along with fun fair activities and donkey rides.
